LERC Wales App

Record any species on the go in Wales.

LERC Wales App enables you to get involved with biological recording. Contribute your species sightings with GPS acquired coordinates, descriptions and other information, thus providing scientists with important new biodiversity information that contributes to nature conservation, planning, research and education.

Your data will be kept secure and will be regularly backed up. Automatic checks will be applied to your observations to help spot potential errors, and experts can review your sightings. All wildlife sightings for non-sensitive species are shared with other users and will be made available to National Recording Schemes, Local Environmental Record Centres and Vice County Recorders (VCRs).

• Fully bilingual user interface (sadly not the species dictionary)
• Works fully offline
• Record all the wildlife you see - supports all UK species
• Add new records with minimal effort
• Benefit from automatic data checks and review by experts
• Share your sightings with the recording community
• Contribute to science and conservation
• Support the Welsh LERC community

If you already have an account with one of the existing online recording webistes that use the Indicia system ( SEWBReCORD, WiRED or WWBIC) then you will be able to view and edit your records from through that website. You will need to register with iRecord using the same email address.

Background

The LERC Wales app allows you to take your online recording experience into the field with your smart phone or tablet. Although the records are held and stored in iRecord if you have an account on one of the three websites that directly interact with iRecord (SEWBReCORD, BIS’ WiReD or WWBIC’s online recording database) then you can view and edit your records there. These websites will be referred to as the LERC Wales Indicia websites from this point onwards. Please also note that Cofnod’s ORS is not directly linked to iRecord so records entered via the app will not editable on that system.

In order to submit records using the LERC Wales app you will need to register an account with iRecord, as this is where the data are held. If you also have an account with one of the LERC Wales Indicia websites, then it is important to use the same email address when registering so that the accounts can be linked together. If you don’t have an account with one of the LERC Wales Indicia websites then that is fine, you can view and edit your records on iRecord instead. If at a later date you wish to make use of the other features that the Welsh Indicia websites offer then make sure you register with the same email address!
